Kauaʻi
Dramatic sea cliffs, deep canyons and lush valleys on Hawaii's Garden Isle.
What to expect
Kauaʻi, nicknamed the Garden Isle, is the oldest of the main Hawaiian Islands. It's known for lush green scenery, a relaxed, low-key feel and dramatic landscapes, from the sea cliffs of the Nā Pali Coast to the colorful gorge of Waimea Canyon.
The North Shore, around Hanalei and Princeville, is green and scenic, while Poʻipū on the South Shore is known for sunshine and beachfront resorts. No road circles the entire island, so the Nā Pali Coast is seen by boat, by air or on foot. Some areas, such as Hāʻena State Park, require advance reservations.
Nā Pali Coast
Towering sea cliffs, best seen on a boat tour, a helicopter flight or a hike.
Waimea Canyon
Often called the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, with lookouts along the road.
North Shore
Hanalei Bay, Princeville and lush mountain views.
South Shore
Poʻipū's beaches and resorts, known for sunny weather.
Rivers & waterfalls
Kayak the Wailua River or visit waterfalls near Līhuʻe.
